Cathy's cousin, Jade, the maid of honor, went all out for a "Day at Starbucks". She converted her own home into a mini starbucks, complete with flavored coffees, their napkins, cups, photos on the walls, and mugs with starbucks coffee for all of the attendees.

So 10 years ago I graduated from High School. Granted, I graduated from Richard Montgomery High School, but I originally went to the good PBHS in Burtonsville, MD with all the kids that I grew up with in Northern Silver Spring. (I left after 10th grade to join the "oso elite" RMHS on the Pike, but was reminded there that I was now a small fish in a bigger pond.)

So last year my best friend of yore and I were talking and she reminded me that our reunion was coming up, whereupon I reminded her that I didn't graduate from the school. "If I don't have a boyfriend that time next year, you will be my date!" I got a call several months ago and a much less chipper Kristina called me and said "I don't have a boyfriend. you are my f*#in date." (artistic blogging exageration lisence used here)

Baltimore, MD INner Harbor. Cruise. I didn't take any photos of the cruise. And only took two photos in all which is really lame. And only about 50 people came, which included spouses. Not extremely exciting as the folks I hung out with, all the guys were at another friend's bachelor party (which I'm sure was a loooooot more fun) But I did catch up with people. Conversations sounded like this:

"I know you! You used to try and throw paper wads down my shirt in French class!" or

"Hey! Didn't you break your arm while jumping down from the loft in my bedroom?" or

"Hmm... I remember you but not your name..." "I'm Heather! I'm now a single mom with 2 kids and I work 2 jobs. Their father gets to see them every other weekend and the bastards not paying child support." "That's nice! Weren't you in my chorus class?"

Several girls were married and divorced already. Married and divorced. I don't even want to go through the first part of that, let alone the second!

Much dancing was done - songs on the DJ play list:

1) The Humpty Dance is your chance to the Hump..ow ow Do me Baby!

2) Several Boys to Men songs

3) Hold on to the nights - Richard Marx

and many other songs that I say I haven't heard in a long time....

Next month will be my 10 year reunion for the school i actually graduated from. so more to come...

Kristina- thanks for letting me come as your date.  I know you were a bit disappointed in the turnout (most importantly that fama and barrick were not in attendance) but I had a great time catching up with you and the other girls.  And besides, I make great arm candy!

Renn Fest 2005. The last time I went was in middle/high school when I was a Techie and was really into Shakespeare, Fairies, Dragons, and crystals. Fast forward 10 years where I am not really into any of those things and its not the same now...

Went with Andy and Shelly, Danny, and....their friends.

All I remember is getting sick off of Meade. And the fact that people need to get out of the area when I throw an axe.

Andy and Shelley - thanks for asking me to come along - wish I hadn't gotten so quesy from the meade.  Also wish I had taken some photos with us in them!

I am looking over a git receiving memo that I created at my old job as a case manager working with victims of human trafficking. My thoughts are that as an employee who is paid to provide services to clients, no gifts should be accepted. Period. It sets us up for favoritism and when providing direct services, that is a definite no-no. Gifts of money, trinkets, or food are not supposed to change/improve/speed up the services that we provide to clients. But taking culture into consideration, where a refusal of a gift is considered bad form and can get people actually mad at you, a no-gift accepting policy is hard to put into place. So I've been doing some research on-line to find out what other agencies have as their policy.

I found this site which is directed toward chemical engineers, but espouses much on the history of bribery. Very interesting read.

This gets into my whole debate about guys paying on dates and my constant effort to remain "dutch."

Having the gentleman pay for all expenses during a date is considered the norm in today's society. I hate it. I feel indebted. Granted, it might just be for a seafood dinner which does not equate to me having to perform anything in exchange for the dinner, but on some level, it does. By him having paid for my meal, movie, etc. I understand that he is saying that he is choosing to spend his hard earned cash on me so that I (and he) have an enjoyable evening together. But it sets up an inbalance at the beginning.

In having the guy pay for me, i have allowed him to set our footing on different grounds. He has taken the first step up and I know that perhaps sub-consciously, I have now placed him in another category where I must now be nicer, kinder, etc. to him. Or rather that I now view him in a more favorable light. All because he paid for something.

But on the other hand, its natural for people to show their interest or affections by buying things or treating others. and I have to say I enjoy doing that. as well as receiving it. but when its at the beginning of a 'relationship', ie, the first few dates.... I don't know. Because in a way, it can be seen as "bribery".

What's wrong with me?

This is too funny. Found this on Friendster. So true!

"To all those getting married: Remember, wedding receptions are for your single friends."

I couldn't agree more! Check out Ollie's wedding photos at http://www.parties.dabu.com/2/769_Ricky_and_Ollies_Wedding Good thing Mike's camera died at a certain point in the evening....debauchery does not always photograph well.

Congratulations Ollie and RIcky! (Ollie, you know that I secretly want your man! And his bike. And Radhika's man as well. I want them all!)

My new coworker told me that she's been following a blog for almost 8 years about a single woman and her life. She put herself into a mental institute at one point because she thought she was going to hurt her child. She had an affair with her boss, a senior government official or something similar, and wrote about it. with actual names . And posts everything about herself, including addresses, work schedule, etc. Scary. Don't know who's out there looking at these...

So I am torn about blogging. And websites. I used to have a website which had photos and info about myself, but realized it was tru;y justself-serving and that no one probably cared. So I hope to post things that make me laugh or are interesting that I want to share with those that I have shared this site with. And post photos for family and friends' perusal.

Dylan's blog is a mixture of his interests and the interests of others. We'll see how I do. If anything, this will just be amusement for myself! But thanks, Dylan, for allowing us fellow bastards to be mooches.

Here is a blog that has actually had an impact on me. And from the comments of people who have seen the blog, others as well. People send a postcard with a secret on it and the most interesting/touching ones are posted weekly. http://postsecret.blogspot.com/ . Its moving. and sad.

Here is an example of a postcard sent in:

Aloha!

I am going to follow in the footsteps of my fellow DABU members and bloggers in setting up a site where I think people will care about my thoughts and my life. Or else they will want to see the photos that they are in (after I get my own digital camera!!!! I swear I will enter the digital age soon. Can't believe that my old job used to be creating web-sites.)

It might be entertaining for some folks. It may be stupid to others. Take it for what it is. JoJo has too much time on her hands. And is too lazy to send out her photos.

Bon appetit!
